Acne
Natural treatments for acne include tea tree oil and other essential oils.
Acne is a disorder resulting from the action of hormones on the skin's oil glands (sebaceous glands), which leads to plugged pores and outbreaks of lesions commonly called pimples or zits. Acne lesions usually occur on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders. Nearly 17 million people in the United States have acne, making it the most common skin disease.
Close to 100% of people between the ages of twelve and seventeen have at least an occasional whitehead, blackhead or pimple, regardless of race or ethnicity. Many of these young people are able to manage their acne with over-the-counter treatments.
In most cases, acne starts between the ages of ten and thirteen and usually lasts for five to ten years. It normally goes away on its own sometime in the early twenties. However, acne can persist into the late twenties or thirties or even beyond.
Acne affects young men and young women about equally, but there are differences. Young men are more likely than young women to have more severe, longer lasting forms of acne. Young women are more likely to have intermittent acne due to hormonal changes associated with their menstrual cycle and acne caused by cosmetics. These kinds of acne may afflict young women well into adulthood.
For acne control, wash your pillowcases frequently and avoid fried foods, sugar and trans fatty acids as much as possible.
Increase your intake of fish. Fish contain omega 3 oils which improve the health and condition of your skin. It is also helpful to increase your intake of olive oil in your diet. Avoid beverages and foods that contain high fructose corn syrup.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea Tree Oil has antiseptic properties and is an ideal skin disinfectant for acne. Tea Tree Oil soothes irritations, rashes and burns, controls acne and dandruff, and treats warts and other fungal infections. The healing properties of this oil make it one of the best essential oils to have in your medicine cabinet.
For acne, tea tree oil is fast acting and acts to clear up the skin while calming the effected area.
